The Co-ordinate works bring together natural, synthetic, and aesthetic orders. The raw plywood panels and waferboard panels intended for substructure building purposes, put in evidence both the natural, i.e., wood grained texture, and the synthetic, i.e., industrially fused layers of wood. Viewing the patterns of incidental knot holes as the basis for forming linear geometric shapes, and finding geometric pattern in the random distribution of wood particles, enables me to combine natural, synthetic, and aesthetic orders into one visual statement.
In the everyday world natural, synthetic, and aesthetic realms are held separate and even at offending odds with each other. The unifying inclusive function of these works is, for me, a metaphor for healing.
